What Is an RBT?

A Registered Behavior Technician is a paraprofessional certified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). RBTs work under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) to implement behavior-analytic interventions.

• Deliver Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services directly to clients
• Collect and record data on behaviors and skill acquisition
• Follow behavior intervention plans designed by a BCBA
• Support clients with autism, developmental disabilities, or behavioral challenges in homes, schools, or clinics

📋 Certification Requirements

To become an RBT, candidates must:

1. Complete a 40-hour training (based on BACB’s RBT Task List)
2. Pass a competency assessment conducted by a qualified supervisor
3. Clear a background check
4. Pass the RBT exam administered by the BACB
5. Maintain ongoing supervision and adhere to the RBT Ethics Code 2.0
